Primary Curriculum
Since Academic Year 2017-2018, Metro School is implementing a revised curriculum.
The existing curriculum has been revised due to the following reasons:
- The exclusion of IPA and IPS subjects in the national curriculum as ordered by the Dinas Pendidikan Nasional.
- The need for longer periods in Language Arts subjects (Bahasa and English) in the lower primary particularly for Grades 1 and 2.
- The addition of more periods for the subjects like Science, Social Studies, Character Building, and Arts. This is to supplement the decrease number of study periods due to the exclusion of IPA and IPS subjects in the curriculum.
The revised Primary Curriculum is focused on realizing the school’s vision of developing Globally Competitive Learners. The expected school-wide learning results include the development of the following skills among all our learners: Critical and Reflective Thinking , Problem Solving , Effective Communication , Collaborative Working and Self-Directed Learning.
The tables that follow show the subjects and allotted number of minutes and periods for each subject area. It can be noted that there is an increase of five minutes (5 minutes) in the usual 35-minute period. This is to allow teachers to prepare before the delivery of the lesson (attendance checking, giving time to students to drink and go to the toilet) to ensure that the whole 35-minute will be utilized in instruction without any disruption.
The inner circle centering on life skills ensures that students acquire sound values and skills to take them through life as responsible adults and active citizens. It comprises the non-academic subjects in the curriculum.
The middle circle centers on knowledge skills to develop students’ thinking, process and communication skills. This will enable them to analyze and use information and be able to express their thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively.
The outermost circle covers the content-based subject disciplines like Language Arts, Humanities & Arts, Mathematics& Sciences. It ensures that students have good foundation in content across different areas of study.
